There are a host of different companies that offer ‘organic’ essential oils in their products  There is a danger that some of these companies will claim to be organic on the label, but are not actually certified organic essential oils according to the USDA In order for a company to officially describe their products as organic, it’s required to meet standards that are outlined by the USDA There are other organizations as well that often have even stricter standards that the USDA for organic products, such as the IFOAM or the CCOF International that will also offer a certification for companies that conform to their requirements.

When a company has been given certification that their organic rose essential oils are truly organic, then this guarantees that the oils were extracted from plants and no chemical products were used during the process. This means that chemical pesticides or other products that are commonly used in traditional farming cannot be used on the plants that are used in organic essential oils.  Of course, this also means that chemicals can’t be used to treat the soil of these plants  This means that the soil cannot have chemical fertilizers or other products used on it. Moreover, if chemicals have been used in soil, a set amount of time has to pass before the soil can be used to grow the organic plants, this is to ensure that there is no residue left

Instead of using these chemical products, the organic essential oil companies grow their plants with the use of natural pesticides and natural fertilizers to produce rich crops. Though, when using these means to create organic grapefruit essential oil for instance, more energy, time, and money is required in order to utilize these natural methods. This means that the organic essential oils will be more expensive than traditionally grown essential oils, even those that are stated to be organic but are not certified to be so

Because plants and soil can absorb chemicals that have been applied to them, people who eat food or use products that were created from these plants can have these chemicals passed on to them. This is why using organic essentail oils is important The pesticides that are sprayed on the fruit trees from which many of the essential oils are made from are absorbed through the rind of the fruit and contaminate the fruit itself Organic essential oils avoid being contaminated, since harmful chemicals are not used by these companies.
